The Netherlands, Water country: a famous Dutch expression. For centuries
our small country has been able to achieve big performances due to the
association with water.
If you enter our country via Schiphol Airport, on the outskirts of Amsterdam,
the basis of our company immediately becomes apparent; the Haarlemmermeer,
drained in the last century. Never before had such an enormous expanse
of water been reclaimed. The control of the water level was a complete
new challenge that required a new method of pumping. The blacksmith Spaans,
from a small village, eagerly accepted the challenge.

On the basis of the ancient wooden screw pump, already invented
by Archimedes several centuries BC, Spaans developed a revolutionary
steel water raising mechanism.
Originally made from wooden staves driven into a wooden shaft, modern
screw pumps are now made from welded steel. Although today electric
motor drives have taken over from windmills, the basic external screw
design developed by Spaans over a century ago has stood the test of
time and is today the industry accepted standard worldwide.

| Nowadays Spaans Babcock is an international company with several offices
all over the world. The modern production facility is situated at the
headquarters in Balk, the Netherlands. Spaans Babcock bv is specializes
in all applications of water and waste water treatment with screw pumps,
aerators and fine screens. This can involve full service contracts up
to major turn key projects. With the international oriented market approach
Spaans Babcock has exported product and systems to more than 70 countries
throughout the world. |
