Babcock is the only manufacturer who gives the screw pump and lower bearing
maximum protection by using guards / shrouds around the lower bearing.
By using this cover, the possibility of items such as rags, ropes, cables
and other debris wrapping around the bearing will be eliminated.
After a period of 4 years testing to find the right compound, Spaans
Babcock introduced in January 2004 the ERGO-guard® with the
same advantages (if not better than) cast iron which has been used for
decades.
Due to improved technologies and the developing of better plastics,
Spaans Babcock is now able to replace the cast iron shroud with a plastic
one. The lower bearing protection guard is manufactured from a plastic
to give a high chemical resistance and a better strength than cast iron.
Due to its low weight, routine maintenance and inspection can easily
be done without the use of cranes or lifting equipment.
Nowadays Spaans Babcock uses the ERGO-guard® as standard
on all their lower bearings, for new screw pump installations, which
replaces the traditional cast iron guard.
